GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
LITTLE BUSINESS IN POTATOES. Per Press Association. CHRISTCIIURCH, Aug. 26. There has been little change in the CanItcrbury grain and produce markets since I last week. The chief interest lias contin!ucd to be in potatoes, although no business is being clone. Merchants describe this week as one of the dullest in the potato , market they can remember. Some of them have not sold a single ton. Farmers arc ( ! still holding very large quantities but , there is no demand from the North Island ( markets, which are well supplied, and still j no prospect of an outlet overseas. As the £ potato season is now well on it seems certain that growers will bo left with heavy , stocks at the close. The nominal quotation * is £2 a ton on trucks. • The seasonal demand for small seeds na= not yet set in in earnest, although there has been some inquiry this week for grass , seeds. Quotation? are unchanged. '■ Large quantities of seed wheat continue j to go out and it is anticipated that the ' demand will continue for another fortnight • It is not yet possible, however, to give an s accurate estimate of the area that is like- J ly to be gown.
