AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. All lovers of the noble art enjoy amateur bouts, and next Monday at the Opera House the Manawatu Boxing Association will stage its annual boxing championships. This promises to be a great fight programme; boys froth Palmerston North, Feilding, Kimbolton and a number of entries from Wellington. should make things very interesting indeed. The local boys are forward in condition and, judging from their form in the gymnasium, they will make things merry for their opponents. There is no doubt that there’s something doing all' the time when "the amateurs meet, and the public are sure of a great night’s entertainment on Monday. The prices are 2s 6d, plus tax, to tjic ringside, ladies and boys Is 6d. AITKEN v. CLARK. A fight that promises to be crammed with action will bo staged next Thursday at the Opera House, when Billy Aitken meets Snowy Clark in a 12-round professional lightweight contest. Both boys can give and take and fight patrons will see a fight that will not bo marred by clinching. Aitken, .who recently defeated Young Gildo, is in great fighting trim, and means to add another scalp to his belt. Snowy Clark is one of the “Brad-’ mans” of boxing, for ho has scored over one hundred victories, and has lost only 11 decisions in about 114 fights. BOUT IN AMERICA. NEW YORK, Aug. 25.
