SECURITY PROPOSALS.
OPINION ON DOCTORS’ VOTE. Per Press Association. - NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 26. ‘ Referring- to the secret vote by doctors on the Government’s social security proposals, announced by N Dr. J. P. S. Jamieson, president of the 8.M.A., recently, Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P., stated at Stratford to-night that the vote was not one of opposition but of preference. Because the doctors preferred the B.M.A. scheme it did not follow that they would not work the Government scheme. Dr. .McMillan quoted from a pamphlet .written by Dr. Jamieson a year ago, in which he said that if a universal scheme was introduced the doctors would have no option but to work it. Dr. McMillan had no doubt that the medical men of New Zealand would, in a few years, compliment the Government on its act in bringing in such a scheme. In support of this opinion ho quoted English authorities showing that, while violent opposition had been offered before its introduction, to-day none were more enthusiastic than the medical authorities. SUPPORT FOR GOVERNMENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 2/. The following resolution was passed at a meeting of the Hiitt b • gsysss^iSS fit to take.”
