Hopman and Schwartz (Australia) heat Petra (Yugoslavia) and Destremeau (France), 6—o, 9—7, B—6. Van Ryn and Allison (United States) heat Johnson and Wetherll, 6 —4, 9—7. Quist’e beautiful returns of service and smashing volleys, plus Bromwich’s severe two-handed stroking, were outstanding features of the Australians’ victory over Molloy and Toley. , The Americans stroked well, and their passing shots were frequently very brilliant, hut they were clearly no match for the Australians.
