Mr D. McCoomb, of the Levin municipal gasworks, was yesterday, from 26 applicants, appointed manager of the Waipawa gasworks. The appointment is announced of Mr A. L. Burk, who has been town clerk of Green Island, Dunedin, as Commissioner of Thames Borough in place of Mr C. L. Grange, who is to take up the position of secretary-manager of the Auckland Hospital Board. Messrs W. H. Brown, T. M. N. Rodgers and S. I. McKenzie (president, member of the executive and secretary, respectively) of the Manawatu Automobile Association, are in Hawera today ' attending the annual meeting of the North Island Motor Union. Mr D. F. Smillie, who has been hon. secretary of the Manawatu Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club for nearly nine years, did not,, owing to .the pressure of other duties seek re-election to that office at the annual meeting of the club last evening. Warm appreciation of Ills valuable services was expressed, particularly in consolidating and strengthening the finances of the club.
