ST. ANDREW’S GUILD.
CHILDREN’S PARTY. St. Andrew’s Hall presented a gala appearance, yesterday afternoon, when a party was given by the vicepresidents and members of the executive of the Ladies’ Guild for the children. A long table, covered with a snowy cloth, and laden with tempting dishes, ran down the centre of the room. It was deeprated with vases of cream narcissi and fern, a larger vase occupying the centre. Small tables were placed round about for the grown-ups, and these bore vases of pink camellias, bulbs and Iceland poppies. In one corner was a low table with chairs of appropriate height for the “tinies.” On the stage, were brass bowls of irises, pussy-willow, japonica, and greenery. The presidential table was brightened with a bowl of scarlet and purple anemones. Mesdames B. H. Smith, C. D. Fraser and N. Tiley welcomed members and visitors at-the door. .
A posy of violets was presented to Mrs M. Aitchison (the president) by Nola Rennie, at the commencement of the afternoon.
Mrs Aitchison extended a warm welcome to:all present. She particularly welcomed , the children and hoped the party would be the brightest and best possible. :■ An interesting • and varied programme was presented by .the children and junior Bible class members, as follow : Maoristjong, Shirley and Helen McEwan; recitations.- Melva Niven and Nancy Edwards (Wanganui), mouth organ solos, Jack Rennie (piano accompaniment played by Mrs G. Rennie), recitations, Norma Carr; vocal trio, Margaret Moore, Betty Bailey and Norma Carr; recitations. Margaret Bindon (Wellington), and 'Margaret Fraser. An interval for afternoon tea was then enjoyed and gay paper caps were distributed among the children. The programme continued with recitations by Nesta Bradfield, and Audrey Fraser; song, Graham Hubbard; recitations, Graham Donald, Noeline Reid (Hunterville) and Nancy
Luke; pianoforte solo, Noeline Rennie; recitation, Patricia Livingstone. A pleasant surprise, announced by Mrs Aitchison and eagerly awaited by the children, proved to be ice-cream, which was then distributed.., Mrs Aitchison thanked the hostesses and members of the executive for their work in connection with the party and the children for their items Jack Rennie then conveyed the thanks of the children and called for three cheers for Mrs Aitchison and the executive.
