LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
ONE NEW APPLICATION; WELLINGTON, Aug. 24. The lands set apart for selection by discharged soldiers* during the year ended March -31 last ' totalled nine acres, -making a grand’total of 1,454,073 acres proclaimed, since the inception of the scheme. This is shown-in the report of the Department of Lands and Survey on discharged soldiers’ settlement, which was, tabled by the Minister of Lands (Hon! F. Langstohe) in the House of Representatives. . ; The report states that only one application for land, under-the scheme was received during, the year. .The numbers have progressively declined since the..peak year'of ,1921, when 5396 applications were received! : The total number of applications received so far is 15,174,. and-allotments have been made to 4105 soldiers.
