LIVESTOCK MAMETS.

JQHNSONVILLE SALE, A READY MARKET. A small yarding of bullocks, a large yarding of cows and lieifers, and a small yarding of sheep came forward at Jolinsonville yesterday. The bullocks yarded were chiefly good medium to heavyweight cattle, which met with a good sale with prices showing a firming tendency. Cows arid heifers were all of good quality and sold well, prices being firmer by'los a head. A few vealet’s came forward, these meeting with a ready sale. The wethers yarded were chiefly heavyweight sheep with a few pens of lighter sorts. All classes sold well at late, rates. The yarding of ewes was of indifferent quality, only one or two pens of good heavyweight sheep being penned. All classes sold well, prices being firmer by Is a head. There were a few pens of hoggets which sold well. The sale was a good one, though prices throughout showed a slight e.asing tendency, particularly in the fat cattle section. Pennings were back to normal at todav’s Addington weekly fat stock market, and as a result there was a welcome recovery in values, noticeably fat'cattle. Eat sheep were in demand and prices remained firm for best ewes and wethers throughout, and on an average were about a shilling a bead dearer than last week. Quotations We Sheep.—Extra prime wethers, to 33s 7d; prime, 325; good, 26s to 295; ordinary, 22s to 255; light, 21s 6d; best ewes, 20s 6d to 245; tops, 27s id; good, 16s 6d to 19s; ordinary, 12s 0d to 16s ; light, down to 12s. There was a better tone in the demand for store ewes and lambs, and one line sold at 13s Id; rising two-tooth ewes, 20s Id, sound-mouthed ewes, 19 s 7d; old sheep, down to 6s 9d. lhere was a slack inquiry for wethers. STORTFORD LODGE. HASTINGS, Aug. 24. An unusually small yarding of fat cattle was yarded at Stortford Lodge live stock sale to-day, and met a rise of more than £3 a head over last week’s - values. Butchers had little choice, and were compelled to compete for whatever was offered. Best cow beef made to 35s 1001 b; poorer sorts 8s Ox beef was in short supply, and owing to that fact bullocks which were offered first before the shortness of the yarding was realised, did not 6hare in the higher prices to the same extent as lines offered later m the sale. The top price for cows was £l2 los, which was obtained for a draft of prime animals.
