RIFLED IN ABBEY.

AMERICAN WOMAN’S HANDBAG. LONDON, Aug. 8. The doors of AVestminster Abbey were locked during a Communion service when it was reported that an American woman’s handbag had been stolen while she walked to the altar. Only one door , was unlocked after the service, the congregation passing through under the gaze of the woman and a verger, in the hope that the bag would be identified. The bag was later found on a seat near another door, by which it is presumed the thief escaped before it was locked. Forty dollars were stolen. The American said that she left her handbag on the seat because she had been told that it was incorrect to carry it to the altar.
