FIRE BRIGADE BALL.

BRILLIANT DECORATIVE SCHEME

A popular event with old-time dance enthusiasts is the annual ball given by the Palmerston North Fire Brigade, and last night its reputation was fully sustained when a large crowd thronged the A. and P. Entertainment Hall to join the firemen once more in an evening of gaiety. Through a winding pathway between trellis, thickly entwined with bamboo, one entered the produce hall, where a comfortable lounge was arranged, lighted by standard lamps and decorated with bamboo, and greenery, tied with purple and orange crepe paper, against its trellis walls. The annexe, to the dance floor was most effectively arranged. A large painting at one side portrayed a house being fiercely devoured by flames. Against the trelliscovered walls bamboo, ferns and other greenery were < arranged to give the effect of shrubs in a formal garden. Orange crepe paper festoons completed the decorative scheme. The graceful silver and white decorations of the A. and P. Association and Farmers’ Ball, with the glint of golden kowhai here and there, had been retained in the maiip hall with the appropriate addition of a fireman’s gleaming helmet on the top of each pillar. In the supper room the tables looked most inviting and were gay with Iceland poppies. Deputy-Superintendent J. W. Hepburn was in charge of the decorations, which were a credit tq him and to his helpers. ■ ■ The guests included‘Mr and Mrs A. E. Mansford, Mr and Mrs J. A.
