ATTACK ON ’PLANE

PROMINENT BANKERS SHOT. THIRTEEN CASUALTIES. (-United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 25, 12.30 p.m. , HONG KONG, Aug. 24. An official communication states that 13 persons are dead or missing among the passengers on the international ’plane,"'which was shot down by Japanese pursuit ’planes. The passengers included 10 women and two children, and distinguished bankers from Sirigloli and Peking, who were en route to an economic conference at Chunking. The pilot (Mr Woods) sent a wireless message to the aviation officials: “I was forced down, at 8.30 a.m. by Japanese pursuit ’planes. I succeeded in landing O.K. but the Japanese machine-gunned us, killing or wounding twelve of the passengers. A Chi-nese-pilot, a steward (who is not accounted for), the radio operator and myself are evidently the only survivors. Meanwhile the ’plane sank in the river.”
