DISHONOUR AVENGED. CHINESE EX-OFFICER’S ACT. SHANGHAI, June 8. A Chinese ex-officer killed 11 Japanese soldiers single-handed to avenge his wife’s dishonour. After the occupation of Yungho the troops terrorised the women. there, and the exofficer, returning to liis home, found five men attacking his wife. He drew his revolver and shot them dead. His wife, in an agony of shame, pleaded for death, and he shot her also-
Then he killed six Japanese who broke into the house to rescue their comrades. Finally, lie took his own life. ~ , First-class military honours have been sought for a Japanese regiment’s dog mascot. A garrison was surrounded by Chinese. It was useless to send a 'man through heavy fire for relief, and a message was fastened to the dog’s collar. Four hours later, the dog returned with Japanese reinforcements. It had been attacked by wild dogs roaming the battlefield, and had fought them off, reaching headquarters covered with blood and toothmarks.
