(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, June 24. Mrs J. Lankshear is spending a holiday in the Marion and Wanganui districts. Mr and Mrs G. Yule have returned after an enjoyable motor tour of the north. Misses C. and L. Cooksley are spending a holiday with Mrs 11. E. Leech, Opawa, Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Phillips have returned >from their holiday, which was spent at New Plymouth. Miss N. Phillips is also spending her holidays at New Plymouth. At the June meeting of the Women’s Institute Mrs B. A. Norman presided over a good attendance in spite of the rain. An apology for absence was received from Miss Cookßley. The motto was “If your face wants .to smile let it; if it doesn’t, make it.” The bring-and-buy stall was well patronised. Mrs Wilde gave an interesting talk on diet, from a box lecture on the square meal, and was accorded a vote of, thanks. Members were asked to-bring to the next meeting one or more recipes to be sent to the federation' to compile a new cookery book. Competitions were: Foreign cookery cakes, seniors, Mrs L. T. Webb 1, Mrs Irwin. 2, Mrs Mabey 3; juniors, ironed blouse, Miss J. Mabey 1. The garden circle competition, a jar of flowers from the garden, was won by Mrs J. A. Cooksley, with Mrs Percy second and Mrs Aitcheson third. The hostesses ' were Mesdames Ciaridge, Gregory, S. Horn and Irwin. Mesdames' Jackson and Wilde judged the flowers and Mesdames Jackson and Horn the cooking. A reminder -was given of the group rally at Koputaroa. The competitions for i July are : Knitted cardigan (seniors), baby’s knitted vest (juniors); garden circle competition, posy of violets, not more than five inches in diameter.
