Mr A. P. Blair, of Auckland, ha 6 been elected president of the New Zealand University Students’ Association for a further year, states a Press Association message.
Mr W. Twigg-Smith, of Honolulu, and formerly of Nelson, who, with Mrs Smith, is making an extended motoring tour of the Dominion, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday. The King has approved the appointment of Sir Bernard Cream, Chief Justice of British Guiana, to be Chief Justice of Cyprus, succeeding Sir H. C. Stronge, who is retiring.—British Official Wireless. Advice lias been received that Mr A. L. Johnston, of Worcester Street, Palmerston North, lias been selected for enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force as stores accounting clerk. Mr Johnston will commence his duties at Trentliam on May 4. The Dominion Secretary (Mr Malcolm MacDonald) has appointed Mr E. Hale, an assistant Secretary to the Treasury, to be the official member of the Oversea Settlement Board from Friday in place qf Mr A. P. Waterfield, who was. recently appointed a member of the Palestine ■ Partition Commission. —British Official “Wireless. Mention was,made yesterday at the conclusion of the final of the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s Easter rinks tournament that a vice-president of the centre, Mr J. Barthplomeiy, of Feeding, is at present indisposed. The president, Mr J. A. Nash, said that all would regret Mr Bartholomew’s indisposition and wish him a speedy recovery.
Nine years a member of the Wellington Harbour Board, Mr W. L. Fitzherbert, of Palmerston North, has uever missed a-regular board or board-in-committee meeting. Of 357 meetings to which he has been called. Mr Fitzherbert has attended' 355. .The two he missed were special meetings. The board last night- congratulated Mr Fitzherbert on his record.
