CEREMONY AT CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. Farewelling the old and embracing the new, the city was in dignified dress to-day for the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new £300,000 Court of Justice by Viscount Galway. In the colourful assemblage which gathered on the bank of the Avon in front of the present Courts many national and civil dignitaries mingled -with the public, and the attendance ivas fully representative of the Crown, Supreme Court Bench, members of Parliament, the Churches, Magistrates, and the legal profession. Nearly three hundred members of the legal profession of New Zealand were present, including seven King’s Counsel. Before the arrival of Viscount Galway a procession of Judges arrived. The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) was followed by Mr Justice Kennedy and Mr Justice Northcroft, garbed in their scarlet robes and full bottomed wigs. This was the first occasion the ceremonial robes of the Supreme Court Bench have been in public in Christchurch. At the rear of the procession was Mr Justice Hunter, of the second Arbitration Court, who wore the black silk robes of his office.
