The first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s inter-Dominion championship mooting, after the postponoment from Saturday was held in fine weather. The track was good, and there was an excellent attendance. The totalisator investments were £45,681, compared with- £41,635 on the first day last year and £38,872 on the corresponding day. Results: — ROBERT C. SIMPSON HANDICAP of £325; unhoppled trotters; 3.34 class. One mile and a half. 1- PEGGOTTY, 36yds bhd (J. Behrns) 1 4- PRINCE HARVESTER, scr (M. Holmes) 2 6-9 ARISTOTLE, 36yds bhd (Motz) ... 3 Also started: 7-12 Debutante, 8-6 Indolent, 9-10 King Franz, 5-3 Listowel, 12-11 Survivor scr, 7-7 Lady Sonoma,' 2-2 Mute 12yds bhd, 10-8 Sister Mary 24, 3-4 Pilot Peter, 14-14 Helens Bay 36, 13-13 Tan John 48. Two lengths; a neck. Times: 3.21, 3.24 2- 3.25 3-5. Going along the back, Prince Harvester led from King Franz, Listowel, Indolent and Debutante. With a round to cover Prince Harvester and Mute led and were followed past the half-mile by Sister Mary, Listowel, and Peggotty. The last-named moved up rounding the far turn to lead into the straight from Prince Harvester, Mute and Listowel. Peggotty maintained her run to win by two lengths from Prince Harvester, with Mute a neck away. Mute, was disqualified for galloping past the post and Aristotle was placed third. With two furlongs covered, Civic was followed by Pola Negri, Sage King, Snowy de Oro, Moana Tama, Full Hand, and Twenty Grand. Passing the stand the leaders were the same, and going along the back Civic and Pola Negri were followed by Snowy do Oro, Southern Chief, and Sage King. Southern Chief led into the straight from Civic, Ferry Post, Pola Negri and Snowy do Oro. In the run home Twenty Grand led, with Pola Negri half a length away. With three furlongs to cover Our Walla was attended by Parisienno, Pot Luck. Nervie’s Last, Evicus, and Rocks Ahead. Parisienne took charge in the straight to win by two lengths from Evicus, with King’s Play a length and a half away. CANBERRA HANDICAP, of £400; 4.34 class. Two miles. 1- GINGER JACK, scr (T. 11. McKenzie) 1 2- IRONSIDE, 36yds bhd (F. J. Smith) 2 3- TOORAIC, scr (E. C. McDermott) ... 3 Also started: 8-8 Eighteen Carat ser, 5-4 Play On 12yds bhd, 6-7 Frisco Lady 24, 9-9 Lady Fame, 7-5 Sea Gift 48, 4-6 Renown’s Best 72. Four lengths; three-quarters of a length. Eighteen Carat was fourth. Times: 4.25 3-5, 4.23 4-5, 4.27. With half a mile covered. Toorak was followed by Ginger Jack, Play On, Eighteen Carat, and ironside. Toorak was still in charge with a round to go and was attended ' past the half by Play On, Eighteen Carat, Ginger Jack, Ironside and Renown’s Best. Ginger Jack took charge entering the straight and drew out to win by four lengths from Ironside, with Toorak three-quarters of a length away. FIRST QUALIFYING EVENT. Second Heat.

Two lengths; half a length. Graham Direct was fourth. Times: 2.42 1-5, 2.43 2- 2.43 3-5. Doublo Great and Speedy Boy were the early leaders, and were followed past the stands by Dan’s Son, Joy’s John, Reporter and Plutus. Going down the* back Speedy Boy led from Double Great, Dan’s Son, Reporter, Joy’s John and Plutus. Double Great turned for home clear of Plutus. Speedy Boy and Joy’s John, and in a good finish Plutus beat Joy’s John by two lengths with Double Great half a length away. ESSENDON HANDICAP, of £425; unhoppled trotters; 4.40 class.
