IDEAS ABOUT WINDOW CURTAINS.

Window curtains have a habit ol blowing out and becoming soiled and wet. To overcome this it is a good plan to stretch a thread of strong cotton across the window aperture, secured at either end by a small screwring fastened into the woodwork. Curtain nets are apt to look “raggy” after washing. This can be overcome by the addition of a very little starch in the final rinsing water. When cutting lace or net curtains, preparatory to making them up, see that plenty of margin is left. This allows for shrinkage when washing at a later date. When threading a rod through net curtains it is a simple matter to daniage the net. This can be overcome by placing a thimble over the rod before threading through the net, as the thimble will both save the net fabric and enable the rod to slide through easily. When gathering tough material for curtains or loose covers, it will be easier if you first run it through the sewing machine with the needle unthreaded, then use the same needleholes when gathering by hand, so that the work is both easily and evenly performed.
