FAMOUS POET.
SIR HENRY NEVBOLT DEAD. Received April 21, 1.20 p.m. LONDON, April 21. The death has occurred of Sir Henry Newbolt, the poet. Sir Henry Xdwbolt, who ranked among the foremost English poets, was born in 1862 and enjoyed a wide literary experience. Like so many writers, be .was the son of a minister, and was educated at Oxford, where lie graduated with honours in classics. For twelve years from 1887 he was a barrister at Lincoln’s Inn, and the following year, as editor of the Monthly Review, embarked on a long literary career. Sir Henry’s pen was prolific, but he will probably .be best remembered for his poem “Vitai Lampada” (“Torch of Life”), familiar to every schoolboy.
