CAPTURE ELUDED.
SEARCH FOR PRISONER. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 20. No further trace has been found of the prisoner, Colin William Glass, aged 26, since Monday night, when, he made a daring escape from the Waikeria Institute, near Te Awamutu, Warders arc still scouring the district, and a vigilant watch is being kept by the police in an attempt to recapture Glass, who was serving a sentence of five years’ imprisonment for attempting to discharge a loaded revolver at a detective in Auckland in 1934. Glass made his escape during the recreation period at about 7.30 p.m. on Monday evening. Momentarily eluding the warders, he dashed into the darkness of the grounds with members of the staff close behind him. An organised search was immediately arranged, and three hours later he was seen again about two miles north of . the institute. Again, however, he disappeared, when his pursurers were only a few yards away. Subsequently the search has been continued, and a wide area has been thoroughly combed by large parties of warders. Although Waikeria is the centre of a well settled farming district, there are numerous patches of heavy scrub which would afford some measure of security to a fugitive.
