CONTEMPT OF HOUSE
PRESIDENT GRANTS PARDON. WASHINGTON. April 19. President Roosevelt has granted a pardon to Dr. Francis E. Townsend who was convicted for contempt or the House of Representatives. Dr Townsend, originator of. the 200.-dollars-a-month old-aye pension plan who “walked out” iu a committee of inquirv of the House of Representatives in May, 1936, and advised several of his followers not to give evidence or obey subpoenas, was in March last year given the minimum sentence of 30 days gaol and a fine of 100 dollars for contempt of the House. The Federal Court of Appeals upheld the conviction.
