EXPANSION OF DEFENCES. BY LAND AND SEA. PREMIER’S ANNOUNCEMENT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright.) Received April 21, 12.55 p.m. VANCOUVER. April 20. The purchase of two hundred aeroplanes and four destroyers, raising the latter to six, has been announced by the Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie King). , . The aircraft personnel has been doubled to 3500. Four mine-sweepers are under construction. Priority will be given to the Pacific coastline. The militia will be completely reorganised with the addition of fm*r aimoured car. regiments, 26 machine-gun battalions and six tank corps. Summer training arrangements loi fifty thousand men have been coraDefending his policy. Mr Mackenzie King stated that by its historic evolution Canada’s external policv now demands no commitments to war except by Parliament. Advance commitments are definitely excluded.
