FEELINGS OF FRIENDSHIP
FRANCO-ITALLAN RELATIONS.
PARIS, April 20.
“The ice is broken, ’ sums up newspaper comment on the first steps towards'a Eranco-Italian rapprochment. Only two extreme Leftists are throwing cold water on the trend of events. Satisfaction is widely expressed over Czechoslovakia’s recognition of the Abyssinian Empire and France is expected to take early similar action by an exchange of letters. It is significantly hinted that efforts may be made to conclude a general agreement before Herr Hitler’s visit to Rome which will have a profound pyschologieal effect on Europe. A Prague message says renewed feelings of friendship toward Italy are expressed by the newspapers since the announcement of the recognition of Abyssinia. All agree that Mr Chamberlain has given Europe new hope in hastening the correction of post-war faults.
