PLACED IN PRISON
ITALIAN JOURNALIST. JAPANESE GUARDS’ ACT. NO REASON GIVEN. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 21, 9.20 a.m. PEKING, April 20. An Italian journalist, Signor Barzini, who is on the staff of the Corriero della Sera, and who was aboard the American gunboat Panay when it was sunk in the Yangtse River, has been arrested by Japanese frontier guards at Ivupehkow. He was returning after a visit with a party of tourists to Jeliol, to which he was returned and was placed in prison. No reason was given. The British United Press says the authorities considered that lie was’taking too many photographs.
