Tho Milson School children their annual swimming sports at the Terrace End baths on Thursday afternoon, there being a fair attendance of parents present. Mr McEwcn (headmaster) was in charge, assisted by Misses Ashby and Miers and Mr Laing. Tho winners of the championship events for the Herbert Smith cups wero Helen Hill (girls) and Wyvcrn Campbell (boys). Results: Boys’ 25yds open, first heat: W. Campbell 1, R. Popper 2. I. Colin Osten’s team 2, Wyvoru Campbell’s team 3. There was a large gathering at the Milson Hall on Wednesday evening when the residents assembled to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs O. Ollivcr, of Carlisle Street, who have resided here for the past eight years and are leaving for AVoodvillc, Mr Ollivcr having been transferred by tho Railway Department. The time was taken up in dancing and games, the music being supplied by Mrs Cairns, of Leeds Street. The duties of M.C. wero carried out by Mr T. Gumming. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Joan Leslie and Mr AV. Leslie. Mrs Castcl and Mr Prico proved tho winners of a competition (tearing an elephant from paper). Mr S. Thompson spoke very highly of tho qualities of the departing guests who were always ready and willing to give their assistance in furthering the needs of tho settlement. Ho wished them both on behalf of the residents and School Committee the best of health and prosperity in their now home. Other speakers were Mr Saunders (locomotive .department), Mr T Gumming (Progressive Association) and Mrs Pepper on behalf of the Ladies’ School Committee of which Mrs Ollivcr has been a valued member for a number of years. After supper had been served dancing was continued until a late hour. Extras wore played by Mrs F. Murphy. Among those presont' wore Mcsdamcs Nichol, _ Fairbajrn, Field, Taylor, Popper, Gumming, Richmond, Ferguson, Bulmor, Larkins, Southan, Murphy, F. Murphy. Brydon, McKenna, Hutchison, Currin, Mudgwny, Castcl, Proobstc.l, Price, senr., Prico, junr., Ollivcr, Norris Brown. J. Johnston. Lcslio, Johnston, Cairns, Thompson, Callcscn; Misses Leslie, Cuinming, Thompson, K. and D. Hoskins, Johanser, Pepper, Crocker; Messrs Saunders, C. and AV. Leslie, Ladyman, Taylor, Gumming, Ferguson, Richmond, Price, Murphy, Mudgway, Ollivcr, Norris, and Thompson. During the evening opportunity was also taken to make a small presentation to Mrs O. Callescn from members of the Ladies’ School Committee. Mrs Callcscn has been a member of tho committee for over nine years, holding tho position of chairwoman for a number of years. Although not leaving tho district Mrs Callcscn has been compelled to resign on account of ill-health.
