CROQUET.

GALA DAY. The members of the Alanawatu Croquet Club held a very enjoyable gala day on Thursday, in perfect weather. This took the form of a Yankee tournament, in which every player took part. Play commenced at 10 o’clock and continued until 5 p.m. Two handsome prizes were donated, the winners being Mesdames Campbell and Faulkner; a special prize kindly donated by the president (Airs Corbridge) for first-year players was won by Air Leeson. The tournament was in the capable hands of Mrs Corbridge (president) and the following committee members; Alesdaines Robertson and Watchorn and Aliss Gaustad (hon. see.), ably assisted as games organiser by Airs Curran. The lunch tables were tastefully decorated with vases of asters and greenery, and looked very inviting. The day having such an outstanding success, it was agreed to. hold another gala day before the season closes.
