TALKS WITH ITALY
WHAT BRITAIN MAY YIELD. RECOGNITION OF CONQUEST. "GOODWILL" ' FEATURE ONLY. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph .—Copyright.) Received March 2, 11.40 a.m. LONDON, March 1. The Australian Associated Press says: The preparations for the AngloItalian talks were taken a stage further to-day, when Lord Perth, British Ambassador to Rome, conferred with several members of Cabinet, including Mr Malcolm MacDonald, who is specially investigating the aspects affecting the Dominions. There is no reason to think the proposed agreement will be much more than psychological and one of goodwill, with recognition of the Abyssinian conquest the. main concession to Italy, and the addition of a few material adjustments, the Associated Press adds. It is becoming more evident that Mr Chamberlain is prepared to face a breakdown in' the negotiations rather than make the smallest concession in connection with the armed forces in the Near East and the Mediterranean, a reduction of naval strength or movements of ships and fortifications.
