DOCTOR ASSAULTED.

BY DRUNKEN JAPANESE. Received February 28, 9.45 a.m. SHANGHAI, Feb. 27. A Japanese soldier, presumed to be drunk, to-day attacked Dr Edward Birt, one of the most prominent residents, and slashed his head and face with a dagger, shouting “English pig!” A Chinese policeman rescued Dr Birt, who, it is feared, will lose an eye.
