CONVENTION INVITATION. An executive meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs Jamieson and Miss Jamieson, Albert Street. There were present Mesdames J. Scott, J. Penketh, E. A. Collins, Ca.rter, Stuart, Holland, T. Beggs, Misses Thompson, M. Sutherland and J. Hughson, the last-nam-ed being a visitor from the Karori Union. An apology for absence was received from Mrs T. R. Hodder. The first question discussed was whether or not the 1939 Dominion Convention should be held in Palmerston North. It was decided that it be a recommendation that an invitation be extended for the Dominion Convention to he held in this town next year. Mrs Carter, literature superintendent, agreed to interview the ministers of the town about posters at the churches. Mrs Stuart, cradle-roll superintendent, gave a brief report of hgr department. It was agreed that as the meeting would he “Peace Day,” Rev. J. Hubbard, president of the local branch of the League' of Nations Union, be asked to speak. It was decided that the usual “White Ribbon” day-be obseived at the June meeting It was agreed to bold a jumble sale in May in co-opera-tion with the local branch of the New Zealand Alliance., Various remits to be brought up a.t the convention in Napier next month were discussed. The delegate, Miss Sutherland, is to be allowed to vote as she thinks best.

The president said that she was pleased to have the meml>ers of the executive at her home on this occasion as the treasurer, Mrs J. Scott, was soon going to Australia, where she would •remain for a year, and it was a fitting opportunity to thank her for her efficient work and wish her a lmppy time aand express the hope that she would return fu'l of enthusiasm for her job. Miss Thompson, who bad consented to act as treasurer in Mrs Scott’s absence, T>-ns warmly welcomed.

Mrs Holland expressed thanks to Mrs Jamieson and Miss Jamieson for so kindly having the meeting at their home.
