FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
OROUA LODGE OF DRUIDS. At the regular meeting of the Oroua Lodge of Druids held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Cuba Street, acting A.D. Bro. Drake presided over a. good attendance of members, including visitors. A motion of sympathy was extended to the relatives of the late Bro. A. Bowden and to Bro. Symons in his recent bereavement. P.A. Sister Donaldson, of Queen of the Oak Lodge, Christchurch, paid a visit and was accorded a hearty wel- j come l».y the A.D. An invitation to attend a social was received from Lind Lodge, and a number of members intend travelling to Tokonmru. A letter was received from Acorn Lodge accepting a challenge to a euchre tourney, which will be played, shortly. Two young ladies and one young man were initiated into the Order. P.Sec. Bro. Alewett reported on tho successful picnic held recently and also on the last meeting of the U.F.S. Dispensary. Bros. Bucha.nan and Ure both reported on the F.S. Council. P.G.P. Bro. Jackson reported on a game of carpet bowls against Acorn, played recently, Acorn proving the winners. P.A. Bro. Hauser reported on a game of cribbage against Acorn for the shield. Oroua retained the shield. It was unanimously decided to send a letter of appreciation to Air Lennox for his assistance at the picnic. A hearty vote of thanks to. the visitors was carried by acclamation. P.A. Sis. Donaldson replied and said she was pleased to have paid a visit, .as she had heard so much of Oroua Lodge, and extended a cordial welcome to any members visiting Christchurch to visit her mother lodge. Supper was served by the stewards and carpet howls was played. ANNUAL PICNIC.
Daring the week-end a large number of Druids and their friends gathered at the Awapuni racecourse tor the Druids’ annual picnic. Races for all sections of those present, from the infants up, were run. The Druids’ Cup, held by Oroua, was again at stake, and several of the races were inter-lodge events. Oroua again proved the winners with 30 po: n t.s to 22 for Acorn and 10 for the Juvenile Lodge. A baby show for babies under 12 months was won by Airs Hardie’s baby. Apples and sweets were given to all tlie children, and the lolly scramble for them was as populn ras ever. Owing to the hot day the ice cream and soft drink stall vyas very popular. •'The Alanawatu Scottish Pipe Band was in attendance and rendered a number of tuneu.
