Progressive Trot.—King Drusus, Edith Grattan, Gay Avon. AUSTRALIAN" TURF. SILENT SENTRY WINS. NEWMARKET TRIAL STAKES. MELBOURNE, Feb. 23. The Newmarket Handicap candidate, Silent Sentry, created a surprise by winning end to end the Newmarket Trial Stakes at Mentone today, in which Hammerhead was unplaced. Namakia, trained by J. Fryer, won the Berkshire Mile, giving the apprentice, W. Hooten, his first win here. Tooley Street is expected to make his Australian debut in the Welter at Mornington to-morrow. Lucky Kid was second in the Berkshire Mije. Namakia’s time was 1.401. NEWMARKET HANDICAP ACCEPTORS. MELBOURNE, Feb. 23. Final acceptances for the Newmarket Handicap are : —Pamelus, Regular Bachelor, King’s Head, Auries Star, Mohican, Ajax, Sarclierie, Gay Chou, Amiable, Caesar, Hammerhead, Elgolea, Soltoi, Ena, Stoic, Silent Sentry, Lolorua. Late Rlemington gallops.—ln the straight Gay Chou (H. Skidmore) easily beat Delvine (Best) over five furlongs in 1.2. Sarcherie (A. Brown), assisted by Sunneyveldt, covered six furlongs in 1.14, and went well. Mohican (E. Stanway) covered six furlongs in 1.16. Hua (W. Sterling) galloped eleven furlongs on the sand in 2.26 J at Flcmington to-day. The first mile took 1.46. Hua looks well. Avenger has been scratched for all Flemington engagements, as he is suffering from soreness. Keith . Voitre will ride Regular Bachelor in the Newmarket Handicap. Counter Patrol has arrived from Adelaide.
