WEST END SCHOOL
SWIMMING SPORTS. Thp annual swimming sports of the AVest End School were held in the school baths yesterday afternoon warm, sunny weather prevailing. Thompson House, with a total of 204 points, came first, Buchler House being second with IG3. In announcing the results of the inter-house competition the headmaster (Dir H. AV. Jackson) said the two houses had been named after the first two headmasters of the school. On behalf of the school committee and Dir G. Tremaine, the chairman, who forwarded an apology for absence, Dlrs Tremaine presented the cups and trophies, as , follow :—Herbert Smith Trust Cups, boys’ championship, Ronald Kelly; girls’, Lorraine Chamberlain; Lyne Shield (donated by Dlrs.G. Lyne in memory of the late Dir G. Lyrie, who was the secretary of the committee some eight or nine years ago), Buchler House (captains, Dorothy Nicol and Cecil Bevins); E. JWaller Cup for the most improved swimmer, AA’illiam Toon. Prior to the relay race for the Lyne Cup, Dir A. C. DlcLean, a memberot the committee, stated that that trophy had been donated in remembrance of the late Dir Lyne, who had ever been ready to help the school. A few minutes’ silence was observed in memory of Mr Lyne. The officials were as follow: —Organiser, Dir K. Dawkins; timekeeper and starter, Dir D. DlcAVha; announcer, Dir S.
