PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Fob. 21. Mr J. W. Sturton has returned from Nelson. Miss J. Donald, of Wanganui, is tho guest of Miss M. Paterson. Mr J. Talmie left yesterday for Rotorua. Mr R. Mcrrio is visiting Taupo. Mr and Mrs J. Swancy left on Sunday on a motor tour of the Taupo and Rotorua districts. Mrs T. J. Paget and Miss J. Paget are spending a holiday in Wellington. On Sunday night at Hamua, a car driven by Mr H. D. Y. Crawford, of Mangatainoka, was involved in a collision with a car driven by Mr Clarkson, of Mastorton, who had five passengers. Fortunately no one was hurt soriously, but both cars were extensively damaged. Pahiatua swimmers figured prominently at the Wanganui carnival. In tho B grade 66 2-3yds handicap, Eric Staples gained first place and was second in tho men’s dive. In tho A grade 66_2-3yds race lan Jensen was second, and Victor Boycns was second in the 66 2-3yds C grade. St. Peter’s Parish Golden Jubilee celebrations commenced yesterday with special services. At 11 o’clock the preacher was Rev. E. J. Rich, vicar of Masterton. Fifty years ago Pahiatua was attached to the Masterton parish and it was particularly fitting that the first preacher should be the present vicar. In the evening the service was fully choral. Tho preacher was Von. Archdeacon Bullock, of St. Peter’s, Wellington.
