NOTE TO BRITAIN
, JAPAN’S APOLOGY. COMPENSATION OFFER. GOVERNMENT’S HOPES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Received December 16, 10.10 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 15. The Japanese Government has handed to the British Ambassador in Tokio a Note to the British Government tendering her “profound apologies” for the incidents when the British gunboats Ladybird, Bee, Cricket and Scarab were “accidentally bombed.” It states that the Japanese Government immediately took the necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of incidents of this nature, and that those responsible would be dealt with suitably and the necessary compensation for the damage paid to Britain. The Japanese Government expressed the hope that the unfortunate incidents would not impair the traditional friendship between Britain and Japan.
