TIAKITAHUNA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIAKITAHUNA, Dec. 14,

The Tiakitahuna School held their annual concert beforo a large audience. The programme was of an exceptionally high standard. An opening speech .was made by Lola Rowland, followed by songs, “God Defend New Zealand,” “Look for the Silver Lining,” sung by the school; recitation, “Mr Nobody,” Betty Robinson; playette, “The Wishing Well,” Ailsa Rowland (mother), Lorna Riohardson and Miriam Rowland (her children), Helen McEwen, Betty Hawke and Lola Rowland (fairies); sketch, “Christmas Wishes,” juniors; recitation, “Lost,” Roy Morley; sketch, “The Three Bears,” juniors; song, school, “Rainbow on the River”; recitation, Keith Rowland, “When I’m a Man”;' sketch, “The Doll and the Fairy,” Helen McEwen and Valerie Rowland; play, “Mr Pickwick'in Trouble,” senior boys; sketch, “The Old 'Umbrella,” Betty Robinson, Helen McEwen and Valerie Rowland; recitation, “The Last Rose of Summer,” Lola Rowland; sketch, “Round the Campfire,” seniors; recitation, “The Coral Grove,” Lorna Richardson; Goodnight Song, school. Tho stage assistants were Mr and Mrs F. Robinson, Miss J. Morley, and Miss M. Rowland, who was also accompaniste, and Mr S. Rowland. Mr R. IT. Berry' was responsible , for some extremely effective lighting and colour schemes. The opportunity was taken by representatives of the School and Hall Committees to pay a tribute to the work done by the teacher, Mr F. Robinson, during his stay in Tiakitahuna. A presentation was made "to Mr and Mrs Robinson, the former replying suitably. The Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting on Saturday afternoon and this was followed by a party for the children of the district. Mrs D. Rowland presided and welcomed a number of visitors and new members. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs W. McEwen owing to illness in the family, also the secretary, owing to ill-health. Mrs H. McEwen acted as secretary and read a report on the council meeting. The children were then entertained with games, sports and afternoon tea. Each of the fifty children received sweets, balloons and a gift. The garden party held by the Lutheran Church. Palmerston North, at the residence of Mr and Mrs N. P. Nielsen, Tiakitahuna, was an outstanding success. There was a large attendance and the various stalls were well patronised. Mr and Mrs M. Voss and Miss Phyllis and Master Len Voss, are visiting Invercargill. Miss B. Parker is spending a holiday at Hastings. Rev. W- J. Berry conducted the Church service on Sunday evening, after which he renewed his acquaintance with the congregation. The friends of Mrs John McEwen will regret that she is ill in hospital and all will wish her a speedy recovery. Mr and Mrs L. Parker, of Hastings, have been visiting friends in the district.
