BRITISH REPORT. MARKET IN DOMINION. HINT TO MANUFACTURERS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received December 16, 1L35 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 15.
A warning to British manufacturers that it is often necessary to depart from designs current in the United Kingdom in order to meet the needs of the New Zealand market. is contained in a report on economic and commercial conditions in New Zealand published by the Department of Overseas Trade.
The report urges manufacturers to make a special euort to supply industrial machinery and says it is doubtful whether openings for industrial machinery in New Zealand have been as assiduously cultivated as markets for such standardised articles as textiles, china, etc. The report also cites figures showing the Japanese gains at the expense of Britain in respect to cottons, linens, and canvas, and says that as iar as price is concerned British manufacturers appear quite unable to compete with Japan.
