SPEECH IN SPAIN.

MR ATTLEE’S EXPLANATION

Received December 15, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 14. Mr C. R. Attlee, referring to Mr W. S. Liddall’s vote of censure, said the basis of the charge appeared to be an inaccurate report of a speech he had made at a luncheon given in his honour. He went into the matter on the request of the Spanish Prime Minister. His views were well-known in this country. Although Leader of the Opposition, he was a private member and owed allegiance to the Government.
