RAILWAY MISHAP.

INQUIRY RE-OPENED. NO STATEMENT T OBE MADE

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 7. With the arrival of the Locomotive Superintendent (Mr P. It. Angus) and the Transportation Superintendent (Mr G. T. Wilson) from Wellington, the departmental inquiry into the head-on collision between a shunting train and a mixed passenger and goods train near the Parnell overbridge in November was re-opened at the Auckland railway station to-day. The board of inquiry consists of Mr Angus, as chairman, Mr Wilson, and Mr P. E. Biggs (engine drivers’ representative). The inquiry was opened at Auckland a month ago, but was adjourned pending the recovery of the two, shunters injured in the crash, Messrs I. Macky and F. E. 11. Ongley, who were still in hospital. Both men gave evidence at to-day’s sitting and it is expected that the inquiry will be continued to-morrow. Mr Wilson said the inquiry was purely a departmental one and that the evidence taken would be submitted to the General Manager of Railways (Mr G. H. Macldey). No statement would be issued to the Press.
