RUSSELL ST. SCHOOL.

• COMMITTEE MEETING. Mr J. A. Grant presided at the monthly meeting of the Russell Street School Committee last night. The Wanganui Education Board ad, vised that, while it> was not prepared to meet the cost of the installation of three additional lights in the school, it was prepared to make a special grant of half the cost, not exceeding £2 ss. ' , „ On account of the increased roll number the Wanganui Education Board also advisfed that the school would be placed in Grade VB as from February 1. The school would become entitled to a Grade 1 maie assistant. A letter from the board stated that the sum of £8 6s Bd, the incidental allowance for November, had been lodged with the school’s bank. In his 93rd and final report, Mr F. C. Campbell, the headmaster, who is about to retire, stated that the present roll totalled 304 pupils, the weeklv averages for the month being 285, 281, 277. and 274 respectively. The examinations had been concluded for the year; the pupils had done particularly well and had apparently suffered no setback consequent upon the closing of the school for a month at the beginning of the year. The dux girl for the year was Noreen de Luen, the dux hoy being Len Robinson. The winner of the Trask cup was Shirley Kirkland. It was agreed to make the usual presentation to the dux boy and girl. The chairman paid a tribute to Mr W. G. Black, the chairman of ~.e Milk-in-Schools Committee, for the efficient manner in which he had organised the scheme in Palmerston North.
