A letter was received from the Municipal Association, regarding the Local Body Amalgamation Schemes Bill, asking the local authorities who wished to tender evidence upon the Bill to do so through the Municipal Association. The Palmerston North City Council acknowledged the receipt of the congratulations sent them during the Diamond Jubilee. The Labour Department wrote stating that a worker was ,working more than the hours and requested that the counoil pay all back pay. The Public Works Department advised that the Highways Board had agreed to subsidise the main road work at the rato of £5 for £1 on the full width of central plots. The clork stated that this indicated all the crossings and intersections. There was no limit to the period of the offer. Mr Swan wus appointed sanitary inspector for the borough in succession to Mr S. P. Reid. Mr H. F. Pearcey was appointed dog tax collector. Cr S. K. Siddolls suggested that the time was ripe for a revaluation o'f the borough, intimating that some of the sections on the outskirts were rated at a ridiculous rate in view of the increase in the number of houses being built. The Mayor stated that in any case a new valuation would not bo mado in time for striking next, year’s rates.
