PERSONS IN EMPLOYMENT.
BRITISH STATISTICS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dec. 6. The Ministry of Labour estimates that at November 15 the number of insured persons in employment, exclusive of persons within the agricultural scheme, totalled approximately 11,573,000 —86.000 fewer than a month before, but ofi a comparable basis 353,000 more than a year before. At the same' time the registered unemployed numbered 1,499,203, comprising 1,227,000 wholly unemployed, 216806 temporarily laid off and 54,797 normally in casual employment. The total was 108,954 more than a month before, but on a comparable basis 698,600 fewer than a year before. EFFECT ON INDUSTRIES. Received December 8, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 7. The big jump in unemployment has chiefl.v hit the cotton and woollen textiles industries; also, the luxury and semi-luxury trades, which were badly affected as a result of the widespread losses on the Stock Exchange. ’ The radio industry seems to be in an unhappy condition and the motor trade is also having a thin time.
