Rev. A. Armstrong, who lias been appointed minister of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, lias arrived in. Pahiatua with Mr» Armstrong. Mr Armstrong was previously minister of the Presbyterian Church at Seatoun, "Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. D. Piper, of Mn.kairo, have as their guests Mrs J. Hunter, Mr and Mrs S. Hunter and Mrs Stubbs, all of Auckland. Mrs J. Pearce, of Christchurch, is visiting her brother, Mr J. Ellmers.

The sum of £l7 resulted from the Presbyterian “shop” held recently. Eketahuna cricketers beat Paliiatua in a match at Eketahuna. In their innings the home side ma.de 109 runs (J. Payne 28). Paliiatua replied with 58 (J. Payne 0 for 19). Eketahuna declared their second innings closed after six wickets had fallen for 76. Paliiatua required 100 to secure a win but, at time, had made only 56 for five wickets (Murcli 32). Mauriceville gained a. three point win from Mangamaire. The following was the result of the calf judging competition held at the Kohinui School. Mr G. H. Brown, president of the Paliiatua Calf Club, being the judge:—Bearing and handling: Jean Ellmers 1, lan Ellmers 2, Han Ellmers 3. Dairy type: Myra Cornforth 1, Nan Ellmers 2, Merle Ellmers 3. The residents of Ngaturi and Kohinui tendered a gift, evening to Miss ]>. Cotter and Mr W. Eckert on the eve of their marriage. Extras were supplied bv Miss M. Rutherford and Miss S. Bone, the M.C. being Mr Rutherford, of Paliiatua. Mr Rutherford .asked the guests of honour to accept the gifts, and on behalf of the Ngaturi Football and Tennis Clubs, Mr J. Dick presented them with an overhanging mirror. , ■
