FINANCE BILL.
CLAUSE CRITICISED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 25. A special meeting of the AYellington branch ot the New Zealand Real Estate Institute was held this morning to discuss a clause in Finance Bill providing for landlords who require their tenants to quit rented, houses to make arrangements for alternative accommodation for them. The branch president, Mr F. G. AA 7illiameon, issued .a statement in which he said the effect of the legislation would appear to be considerably more far-reaching than it was intended. He thought it would prejudice rather than assist the very class of person it was intended to assist because every house property becoming vacant would inevitably remain vacant, until the sale could be effected. In the same way new house, erected primarily for letting, would now be kept vacant until sold, as it was obvious that once it ,was let it could not be sold. The measure Would also be a deterrent against any further building except bv intending owners and occupier;''. He suggested that before the Bill had .a third reading it should be referred to • th« committee of the. House to take evidence and ascertain the real effect.
