“Music hath charms,” and curative qualities as well, according to the authorities at Vichy, the well-known health resort of France. The “cure” at Vichy is accompanied by the finest music that can" bo provided, and ma.ny famous conductors, including Sir Thomas Beecham, have conducted the Vichy orchestra. The Wagner concerts of Vichy are famous, and this season “Die Meistersinger” was produced under the direction of Karl Elmendorff, conductor of the Festspielliaus of Beyreuth, who also conducted performances of “The Bartered Bride,” by Smetna, and the “Coq d’Or,” by Rimsky-Korsalcoff. The best opera singers are heard at this resort in all the classics of French, Italian and German opera. The fine music programmes are not merely incidental, a relaxation during treatment, but are considered as forming part of the cure, for the organisers say that listeners to good music produces a mental attitude conducive to the best results.
