MARTON, Nov. 22. In a cricket match held under the auspices of the . Rangitikei Cricket Association on Saturday afternoon the Ilunterville team beat Marton. by 25 runs. Huntcrville, in their first innings, made 92, while Marton made 67. Porewa beat Old Boys. Porewa’s innings was worth 171 and Old Boys made 76. Mr J. D. Smith presided oVcr the monthly meeting of the Rangitikei tih-ket Association on Saturday evening. Mr 1). A. Cameron tabled a report on the conference at Christchurch. The following resolutions were carried: (1) “That the present system of challenge for Hawke Cup -be retained, and the management committee shall select forthwith, after conference with the minor associations, fire toams who shall have prior right to challenge for the Ilawke Cup this year, thereafter the right to challenge shall be fixed by the management committee after playing of such elimination matches as the committee shall deem necessary.” (2) ‘That after a minor association has held the Ilawke Cup for two complete years in succession, the management committee shall have the right to call upon the holders to travel.’ It was agreed to accept the date fixed for Rangitikei to compete in the Ilawke Cup competition. In the games played on the ,Marton bowling green, on .Saturday, for the Nixon Cup, St. John’s beat Marton by 65 points to 56. The results of the games played by the three rinks which journeyed to Wanganui to compete in the Nixon Cup competition are:-—Hawk, Ashton, Blomfield, Cuming (skip) 19 v. Holland, Gibson, Mac Kay, Kirkwood (skip) 17; McKenzie, Hempleman, Hamer, Ilayhor (skip)' 25, v. Holland, Lance, Newton, McFarlane (skip) 13; Brabyn, Miles, Mar-shall-Smith, Hawkins (skip) 19 v. Leslie, Linaker, North, Chenery (skip) 29, MARION, Nov. 23.

The Rangitikei Cricket Association, at its last meeting declined the Marton Club permission to play cricket on the county ground on Sundays.

(Alarton; ; school division, Air F. Gabites (Alarton). , , Air F. J. AYilkes, AI.A., who has been on the staff of the Gisborne High School for 29 years,. is to retire early neift year. Air Wilkes was born in Nelson and received his education at Nelson College. After completing his secondary education he entered Canterbury University College, and took his ALA. degree. Before going to Gisborne Air Wilkes was a lecturer. at the Normal Training College in Christchurch and at the Alotueka and Alarton District High Schools.
