GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI.

RAIN IMPROVES TRACK.

QUADROON RUNS WELL.

(By “Spectator.”) With the Feilding meeting close at hand, and the Otaki and Woodvillo fixtures to follow, there was plenty of activity on the Awapuni track this morning. For two weeks, on account of the hardness of the course proper, most of the work has been done on the plough, .bu the gallopers were again in action on the course itself to-day, the ram having greatly improved the track, with the result that the going was excellent. Corroboree (Chisholm) and Quadroon (Johnson), who are both engaged in the principal event at Feilding on Saturday, were associated in a solid gallop over a mile in 1.48 1-5, the first half taking 53 sec. Quadroon, who has improved remarkably, as he showed at Trentharn, after being glow to come to hand, appeared to be doing his work just a shade better than his companion at the finish, and it was a good effort on his part. Renascor (Anderson) showed speed 111 dashing over three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. The Musketoon—Snowshoo colt has improved rapidly of late, and galloped well this morning. ... The Crooner (Ireland), under » hold, did a comfortable six furlongs m 1.21, and promises to step out an even better horse for the- holiday racing. . Lady Ina (Broughton) impressed in a six furlongs’ gallop with Wildflower (Leach). Though she was under a slight hold at the finish, the former was easily holding her companion. The pair covered the distance in 1.18, taking 25 l-ssec. for the first two furlongs and 1.4 a ior tne five—the best of the morning. Taumau (S. Anderson) slipped over halt a mile without being under pressure. First Half (Centrepiece—Zamanek) and Skyful did three-quarter pacework, finishing with a sprint down the straight. Herangi (Leach), who has been galloping well, finished very nicely in front or Mon Ace (Broughton) over six furlongs m 1 21. 'Noisy Night (Anderson) ran five furlongs in 1.84, but the Feilding Trial Plate candidate was not asked to do nis best. The half-mile occupied 55£sec. Striding along very nicely, The Buzzer (Broughton) was picked up by Royal Choice (Howe) at the fivo furlongs post to run a inilo in 1.48 1-5, the seven furlongs occupying 1.334- Royal Choice took 1.0 for the five furlongs. Alby (Chaplin), having his first gallop for "some time, finished lengths behind Rarotonga (Tattersall) oyer half a mile, the speedy yo'ungster going right away at. the finish to cut out the distance in ol 3-ssec. This was the best time for the four furlongs. Great Hope (Broughton), appearing to have benefited from his race at, Levin, stayed on better to finish well in front of Laughing Lass over fivo furlongs m 1.5, but the latter was pulling up at the finish. . Surmount (Tattersall) slipped over three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Oratory (Broughton), allowed to run along, took 41sec for three furlongs and 554 sec for the half-mile. . Gay Boy (Anderson) did hi» half-mile in 53sec, the first two furlongs in 28sec. Silver River (Chaplin) stretched out nicely to run five furlongs in 1.6 after taking 53 l-ssec for the half-mile. Beaulack (Howe) got through her work in good style, covering seven furlongs in 1.374. She is steadily improving. Round Score (Anderson) galloped a mile in 1.48 4-5, the last seven furlongs, taking 1.34 3-5. It was one of hiß best efforts for some time. King’s Lancer (McDowell) was sent over a round of the hurdles, but did not impress. Conveyor was schooled by A. McDonald over a few fences. Orient Dawn (Broughton) was responsible for a good gallop in covering seven furlongs in 1.33 1-5, the last five taking 1.7 2-5. , , , Cutting out the first three furlongs in a shade under 40sec, Dawning Light (Broughton) left fivo furlongs behind in 1.5 2-5. , , . Hunting Lore and Catalogue were let off with light exercise on the inner track. Going easily, Chat (Johnson) ran five furlongs in 1.9 2-5. Wagner (Chisholm) slipped over three furlongs in 4l4sec, but was under a strong hold. Cher Ami (Leach) was allowed to bowl along leisurely over five furlongs in 1.13. It was little more than three-quarter pace. Though Old Surrey (Ireland) was under a hard pull at the close, Ana (Broughton) was with him at the end of half a mile run in 51 4-s Sec, a smart effort for the latter. Aurora’s Love (Anderson) went five furlongs in 1.7. She is another who benefittod by her race at Levin. ’ Segra (Tattersall), having her first sprint, did well to travel half a mile with Dunmanway (Broughton) in 54seo. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS.
