A. AND P. GRANDSTAND DAY.
There is good cause for the Manawatu A. and P. Association to expect a huge crowd at the Showgrounds on Saturday, when an afternoon and evening programme of entertainment will. be pro\ lded which, for novelty and variety, will appeal even to the most critical. Tho Russian Cossacks, world famous for their daring feats of horsemanship, will provide a thrilling demonstration, both afternoon and evening. The troupe has been specially imported from Australia for the “Grandstand l)ay”. Having, been engaged as a major attraction for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane Royal Shows, as well as for a number of other leading Australian shows, the Cossacks have delighted thousands upon thousands of spectators and at Brisbane were the cause of a serious traffic jamb when people wore seeking admission to the showgrounds. Among other attractions in the programme will be chariot racing, a display by the Manawatu Pipo Band and the Ruahine Pipe Band, an exhibition game of baseball plaved by teams from Ford Motors, Pctone. In the evening the Cossacks will give a further exhibition on the floodlit oval, preceded by a gymnastic display by the Y.M.C.A. Then comes something entirely new to Palmerston North—the anti-aircraft display in which ihc offi-. cors and men of tho R.N.Z.A. stationed at Fort Dorset, Wellington, using the latest anti-aircraft guns, searchlights,_ and sound-detectors, will repel a night air raid on the showgrounds conducted by the Manawatu Aero Club. Everything possible will bo done to make the display a realistic one. . .
