PALMERSTON NORTH JUBILEE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,' —In regard to Saturday’s procession, I wou.d like to know why was the humorous display class split up into two lots. There were only five entries for this competition. Three of them were placed on one side of the grounds and two on the other. The first three took part in the competition for the prizes, unknown to the other two. Both of us were told to remain by the children’s display section as all those competing in the humorous class would be lined up there. But after waiting half an hour or more we made further enquiries from other officials and were told to go down to the other end of the grounds and wait by the two old model cars. This we did, and after waiting twenty minutes or more were surprised to see an official come along and place the first and second prizes on two of the competitors. We made enquiries from that official and he said the humorous class had already been judged, and the prizes given. We made further enquiries of four other officials, who said they would see what could bo done. We waited quite a long time, but no one came back. Why did all these officials tell ns to wait here and wait there r Was it fair to competitors who went to a lot of trouble and who helped to make up the procession to be denied a chance to compete for the prizes in our class? It w'as impossible ior us to see the other three competitors from where we were placed, and further we could not see any o'f the displays taking pn.rt in the oval. It was only after our class had been judged that we were got together. That is the second time such a thing has happened to us, the previous one being at the queen carnival. But never again. I am, 6 C " FORGOTTEN COMPETITORS. When the above letter was referred to the organiser of the jubilee he had no comment to make.
