HIGH SCHOOL FUNCTION.
Mil AND MRS JAS. KNIGHT ENTERTAIN. GOLDEN WEDDING GIFT. In the assembly hall, on Saturday evening, Mr and Mrs Jas. Knight, to mark their golden wedding anniversary, entertained pupils of the Feilding Agricultural High School at a social and dance. Bowls of flowers and .foliage assisted in transforming the stage into a cosy-drawing-room for the comfort of members of the school staff and the Board of Managers, who were also the guests of the host and hostess. Vocal items were rendered by Miss P. Goldsmith and Mr W. J. Hansen, while the dance numbers were thoroughly . enjoyed by the pupils as was also supper. Mr and Knight, assisted byMrs McClure, the guests. Among those present were Mr A. C. Buist and Miss Buist, Mrs J. E. Barltrop, Miss M. McClure, Mr and • Mrs P. G. Stevens, Mr and Mrs C. Sayers, Mr and Mrs K. Ross, Mr and Mrs D. N. Fergusson, Mr G. Coleman, Mr and Mrs W. A. Sandilands, Mr Barr Miss V. McKenzie, Miss E. Clifford, Miss C. McKenzie, Miss Patten, Miss E. M. Wright, aild Mr W. F. Reid, representing the Board of Managers and the school staff. At a suitable juncture D. H. Thurston, president of the school council, expressed the appreciation of the school to Mr and Mrs Knight for the social and for their wonderful interest in the welfare of the school and pupils. He assured Mr and Mrs Knight that the pupils were mindful of everything they had done for the school.
. Concluding, he offered the congratulations of the school to Mr and Mrs Knight on their golden wedding and wished them every huppiness and good health, inviting the hosts to accept a token of esteem of the pupils. Rona Heap presented Mrs Knight with two cases of gold teaspoons and dessert spoons, an act which brought forth enthusiastic cheering and the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” In acknowledging the gifts from the pupils, Mr Knight said it made both Mrs Knight and himself extremely happy to see the pupils enjoying themselves. He went on to tell the pupils that only' on. one occasion during his 50 years of happily married life had they been separated and that was on the occasion of a trip overseas. It had been stated that only one couple in 10,000 live to celebrate their golden wedding and he, therefore, felt it something of an achievement and one to be very proud of. Concluding Mr Knight once more expressed the happiness both he and Mrs Knight derived from being among the pupils of the school and seeing them full of happiness. Beautiful posies were presented to Mrs Knight and Mrs McClure by the pupils.
