FALSE DECLARATIONS. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Nov. 12. “This will be one of the mo6t difficult cases of this type Your Worship will have to deal with,” said ChiefDetective Young in the Police Court when a married man with eleven children, Clarence Hnrold Lowe, pleaded guilty to twelve charges of making false statements under the Employment Act. Lowe’s children range in ages from fourteen to two years, lie had been on sustenance for a considerable time a.nd was also receiving a ration allowance of five shillings weekly and a family allowance of sixteen shillings weekly. Accused declared his earnings nil. It was subsequently ascertained that for twelve periods lie ha.d been working. As .a result of his statements he received £35 in excess of the amount to which he was entitled and an additional £l4 as a rations allowance. For six weeks his total income exceeded £B, for eight weeks £7, for ten weeks £6, and for thirteen weeks £o. On the first charge accused was hned £5, the payment to be suspended under a further order of the Court. On the remaining charges ho was convicted. and ordered to come up for sentence within two years.
