FALSE PRETENCES
MAGISTRATE’S WARNING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 12. When confronted with four charges of false pretences in the Police Court, to-day, William Moody, a married man with one child, had nothing to pay. The prosecuting officer said that from March to August of this year Moody obtained casual work on the waterfront and declared his earnings nil continuously. Of seventeen false declarations fourteen resulted in excess payments of £23, while nine of the false declarations were made after tho Magistrate’s warning in May. Mr On- Walker said that .if there wero any more of these deliberate eases he would consider sending tho cliarges to the Supreme Court. He sentenced Moody to one month’s imprisonment on each of two charges and fined him £l2 10s on the other two charges.
